MostAmericansdonotunderstandtheIsrael-PalestineconflictorhowitrelatestotheUnitedStates,butforgoodreason,mostsupportIsraeloverHamas.Inthiscontext,left-wingprotestorswillnotbeabletomanipulatetheemotionsofsympathyandguiltonamassscale,astheydidwithGeorgeFloyd.Ultimately,thespectacleofmaskedAntifa-styleprotestorsoccupyingcampusesoveraforeignconflictandsupportingHamas-style“decolonization”doesnotofferaclearandsignificantupside.
Butthereisasignificantpotentialdownside.
ThisencampmentescalationdividestheLeft,alienatesinfluentialsupporters,andcreatesasenseofchaosthatwillmovepeopleagainstit.ThecorrectresponsefromtheRightistocreatetheconditionsfortheseproteststoflourishinbluecitiesandcampuses,whilepreventingtheminredcitiesandcampuses.IftheseprotestsbecomemorevolatileandgoallthewaytotheDemocraticConventioninChicago
