Dr.MartyMakary,aprofessorofpublichealthatJohnsHopkinsUniversity,discussesthemedicalissuesassociatedwithpubertyblockers  Parentsgroupssoundedoffonanewmedicalstudywhichfoundfertilityblockerscouldcauselong-termfertilityandhealthproblemsinboys. ThestudyfromtheMayoClinic,whichhasnotyetbeenpeer-reviewed,analyzedmorethan130,000spermcellsfrommalechildrenwithgenderdysphoria.Theresearchersexaminedthetesticularcellsofboyswhohadbeenonpubertyblockersanywherefromthreemonthsto52months,andcomparedthemtocellsofacontrolgroupwhohadnotbeenontheblockers. Amongthoseonpubertyblockers,theresearchersidentifiedmildtosevere“sexglandatrophy,”determiningthatthemedicationsacceleratedtheagingandfunctionoftesticularcells.
