Parentsgroupssoundedoffonanewmedicalstudywhichfoundfertilityblockerscouldcauselong-termfertilityandhealthproblemsinboys.
ThestudyfromtheMayoClinic,whichhasnotyetbeenpeer-reviewed,analyzedmorethan130,000spermcellsfrommalechildrenwithgenderdysphoria.Theresearchersexaminedthetesticularcellsofboyswhohadbeenonpubertyblockersanywherefromthreemonthsto52months,andcomparedthemtocellsofacontrolgroupwhohadnotbeenontheblockers.
Amongthoseonpubertyblockers,theresearchersidentifiedmildtosevere“sexglandatrophy,”determiningthatthemedicationsacceleratedtheagingandfunctionoftesticularcells.
Thefindingssuggestthatpubertyblockers’impactsmaybepermanent—disputingclaimsthatsucheffectscanbereversed.
